TDE’s in residence manufacturer and Kendrick Lamar’s regular partner Sounwave did a special conversation with Signboard magazine for their March issue which likewise co-incides with ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’s five year wedding anniversary. In the meeting Sounwave explored taping Kendrick Lamar’s work of art ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ and the distinctions it complied with. Below is the passage from meeting.
On taping the album in 2014
In 2014 we took an extremely essential trip to South Africa, which opened our eyes to our homeland as well as touched us in an extremely special means. That’s when this cd started. Sitting in [Nelson] Mandela’s residence in Johannesburg, we claimed, «This is the audio, this is the message.» It was something we had to go out. We felt it from deep in our hearts, as well as to have it be seen like that was a blessing, that’s all I can claim.
Kendrick trusted me in building the album’s extremely delicate noise. It all unfolded as we picked the lineup, consisting of collaborations with jazz players Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper and also my guy Thundercat. TDE [Top Dawg Home Entertainment] does not commemorate a whole lot, particularly Kendrick. As soon as To Pander A Butterfly was out, he stated ‘ok what are we doing following?’ We never quit working.
